Sample Interior

This is a sample page with some common design elements you’ll use. You can delete it, repurpose it, or keep it around as a draft to reference later. Please note that content added in the block editor always comes before content added in the ‘Page Flex Content’ part of the expandable ‘Meta Boxes’ section below the block editor.

Templates

There are a few different page templates to choose from. ‘Default’ has a sidebar on the right that shows the current navigation menu section. ‘Left Sidebar’ is the same thing, just mirrored to the opposite side. Full-Width has no sidebar. Blank is probably not going to be useful outside of rare circumstances and can be ignored.

Best Practices for Accessibility

Theme-controlled parts of this site already conform to accessibility standards, but there are some basic concepts to keep in mind while building out content.

Heading Levels

Heading Levels should always be in semantically correct order. Heading 1 > Heading 2 > Heading 3 > Heading 4 > Heading 5. Heading 1 is reserved for the page title and should not be used inside custom content. Do not use incorrect heading levels for visual appearance reasons, a heading’s color, size, weight, etc. may be customized in the block settings. Incorrectly set heading hierarchies can cause issues with screen readers.

Alt Text

Always set an alt text value for an image describing what the image is. This can be done in the upload window or the block settings. Only leave alt text blank if the image is purely for decoration / carries zero semantic meaning to the page content.

Text Block

Text blocks are single instances of the old classic editor. They don’t have as many features as the block editor, but they DO support HTML in the ‘Text’ tab. These are useful when you want to mix normal text content in with the custom page flex content.
